The White Mountain Waldorf School has been helping families raise well-balanced, multifaceted young people since 1985. A rapidly growing international educational movement that began almost 90 years ago, Waldorf education has grown to over 900 independent Waldorf schools worldwide.
Come experience the continuity of a complete and integrated curriculum which extends from early childhood through middle school. The White Mountain Waldorf School is accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America as a developing school.
Waldorf schools are nonsectarian. Values such as respect for self and others, universal to all religious and spiritual traditions, are upheld in the classrooms. Spiritual leaders of many cultures are studied through the history of world civilizations. The question of religion is left strictly to the family.
The best way to learn more about the White Mountain Waldorf School education is to see it for yourself.
We offer regularly scheduled Observation mornings which provide an ideal opportunity to visit our campus, meet the teachers and best of all, see the education in action.
In addition our Open Houses provide a more relaxed format and are child-friendly. For schedule details, please visit the calendar pages of our website www.wmws.org. To RSVP to attend an Observation Day or Open House, please call us at 603.447.3168 or e-mail us at info@wmws.org.
History & Background
In the winter of 1984,
a small group of parents and friends from the
surrounding Mount Washington Valley area recognized
that the true meaning of education is to lead out
(e-ducere), rather than to put in, and that a
meaningful education is dedicated to awakening the
faculties that lie dormant within each child. The
questions that remained were, where do such schools
exist and how to find them?
One member of this original group of parents, Dr.
Michael Glick of Ossipee, was familiar with the
Waldorf School movement which was initiated by
Rudolf Steiner in 1919 and is based on the
conviction that a truly holistic pedagogy should
encompass the education of the heart, hands and
mind. Dr. Glick arranged to have several trained
and experienced Waldorf teachers travel to the
Conway area and over a period of many months these
educators gave talks and workshops and answered any
questions that people had concerning the Waldorf
approach. Naturally, the question of how to start a
Waldorf School came up. The response was always the
same in time and with a lot of hard work. Within a
year a kindergarten/preschool program, serving 15
children, was started. Through an energetic spirit
and an abundance of love and enthusiasm our school
has grown to our present size which serves 100
children with 20 faculty members.
The WMWS is at an exciting crossroads as we
continue to grow and develop our new campus. We
look forward to having your family as part of our
community with us as we grow into an AWSNA
(Association of Waldorf Schools of North America)
supported grade school.
The White Mountain Waldorf School is committed to equal-opportunity education and welcomes families of all ethnic, social and religious backgrounds.
